Truna meaning 'single' and jaya meaning 'to win' immediately gives an awareness from the dance. Ironically, the dancer are youthful ladies who undertake the role of teenagers. The ladies put on a 'destar' normally worn by males as well as an unusual loin-cloth known as a 'kancut'. The Trunajaya is generally danced with a single female but sometimes two, dancing together in synchronous actions and also to the mesmorotic sounds from the 'Gong Kebyar', a quick, rhythmic beat which matches harmoniously towards the dance. The dance was produced by Wayan Wandres, from Singaraja, Northern Indonesia.
